Snood Knitting Pattern / Recipe

I can hardly call this snood pattern a pattern, it is a really simple recipe that can be changed in many ways and it would still work.

So far I have made two, one for my Mum and one for my friend Charlotte who blogs over at the fatty crafter and is very appreciative of hand made presents.

Next I am making one for myself!

This snood is a great project for a new knitter or for an advanced knitter to knit when watching TV or on a journey.

 To make this snood you will need chunky weight wool and size 10 needles:

Cast on 19 stitches
Knit 1 purl 1, repeat until the end of the row
turn and do the same.
this makes a moss stitch.
repeat the same knit 1 purl 1 for the whole snood.
knit until the scarf measures 60 inches. 
Cast off and twist the scarf once before sewing the two ends together.

You can make many variations of this snood:

 * Use thinner wool and smaller needles - just cast on more stitches. 

 * Make it really colourful with lots,of different coloured wool just make sure the wool you use is all the same type and weight. 

* Knit it longer and thinner so that it will wrap around your neck more times.

* If you find purling too difficult can just knit, it still looks effective. 

 There are many more ways you can make this pattern your own.

Christmas Fun

We are back from our Christmas travels. 

This year we spent 5 days in Southampton, 5 days in Hastings and one day in Cambridgeshire. 

Before we left we were a little worried about how Fred would deal with the long car journeys, but it turned out our worrying was completely unfounded. In total our journeys were 14 hours long and Fred slept for approximately 12.5 hours of them with the worst crying session only half an hour from our house on our way back. He is pretty good at sleeping almost as soon as we put him in the car seat.

The long journeys and the extended time away from home were quite tiring for all of us, but were definitely worth it. Fred has now met all of his Aunts, Uncles and  most of his Cousins. He even managed to woo a few Great Aunts and Uncles.

Anyway that is enough about Fred, this post is meant to be about my Christmas break highlights.

Two of my highlights over the last two weeks are both walks. First was a boxing day walk on Southampton common with Grandpa, Aunty Vicky, Jamie and Fred.

It was lovely to walk in the bright sunshine watching families play, children trying out their new bikes and scooters, sons walking their mothers and toddlers working out how to put one foot in front of another. Best of all was walking with family, Fred slept on Jamie's chest content and peaceful.

My second highlight was a walk along Hastings seafront with Mutti and Grandad, it was also bright and fresh. I love the sea and the sky was beautiful. We wandered slowly, again I watched families playing in the play parks and children bouncing on trampolines. Mutti is wearing her Christmas present from me, a knitted snood. (I'm going to write a pattern for it soon, its only simple but someone may find it helpful!)

I'm back...

Sorry I haven't posted for so long!

I took an unintentional break from my blog. After all the drama with Jamie I just felt a bit uninspired. But I am back now. I can't promise such regular posts as i am out of the habit of photographing an documenting my life but I will try...

Another reason for the blog break is that just before Jamie became ill we found out that I am pregnant! 

Dealing with Jamie's pneumonia was difficult because I was feeling so tired and sick. I am so glad he is all better now and back to full health. 

Thankfully my morning sickness has at last subsided (it has been two weeks since I was last sick WHOOP!)

I am now 19 weeks pregnant.

This photo was taken at 16 weeks. I have a nice little bump coming along. 

So far I haven't had any cravings, I can't say I'm enjoying the experience of being pregnant.  It is horrible being sick and queasy (obviously), I'm also finding it weird that my body is changing so much. (my belly button is already unrecognisable)

I started to be able to feel the baby moving last week, it is very surreal! I like it though. I have been able to feel it on the outside of my stomach too, but Jamie hasn't managed it yet. It might be because he makes me laugh too much, he kept putting his face on my belly and asking the baby to kick him...

Whilst I have been away I managed to finish knitting Jamie's jumper! Another thing to cross off my 30 before 30 list. :)

New Hats

I got my wish for a new hat... or two

 I found some lovely wool in hobbycraft (it is unusual for me to visit hobby craft, I find the staff aren't very helpful and it is generally over priced) and I made this hat. 
 

 I am quite proud of myself and I'm really happy to have a new hat to wear that fits my tiny head!

My second hat is for Cambodia, and not exactly suitable for the winter weather.

It will hopefully keep my head cool in the heat of the sun (my freezing hands are so happy to type that!) and shade my face.

Hats

It is cold, and dark and I would like to hibernate... please?

Failing hibernation i would like a new hat, I'm thinking a may knit one, in need of some inspiration i had a little hunt around the internet. Here are some of the best...

This hat is a snip at only £180!!! It is hand knitted but still more than I would spend on a winter coat and some new boots put together. I suppose if hats really are your bag and you have ludicrous amounts of money why not. Don't get me wrong i really like it and I would like one but I haven't got a spare £180 lying around. I love a novelty item and this hat from Next has it all, pom poms, big eyes aaaaannnd matching gloves! They can both be yours (or mine) for only £18. Find them here.

 

I am also a sucker for an over-sized bobble, I don't know why the model is looking so unhappy, the thought of having that bobble on my head fills me with joy, but alas it is sold out. Probably because it had been reduced to only £3 an absolute bargain. I found it here

 

This hat is also a bargain and I like it a lot. It would be quite a difficult knitting project though as I just want an easy to knit and wear hat adding more colours is just faffy. It is only £5 though so maybe I will buy this and knit myself another one. I do like hats a lot after all... I found it here

socks!

My finished socks! I finished them weeks ago but I have been very slow at taking pictures of them.

 So what do you think? I am quite proud but I keep seeing places that they have gone wrong. (look at my left big toe)

I wanted to start knitting my jumper soon, but I have a problem. A few months ago I found a pattern, bought the wool and the right needles, I went to start knitting it last week, but i have lost the pattern. 

Anyone know a good beginners jumper pattern for a man?
